CHILLDUST™ IS NATURALLY PURE, non-crystalline, 100% pumice bathing dust blended from select grades to provide both a gleeful dust frolic and highly effective cleaning. Dust bathing is a fascinating, instinctual grooming behavior of chinchillas, degus, dwarf hamsters, gerbils and similar furry dry-climate critters — designed by nature to keep fur effectively clean and skin in primo health.

In the wild, chinchillas, in particular, actively seek out the volcanic pumice deposits abundant in the South American Andes region they call home, as pumice dust is nature-engineered to be highly effective for dry bathing.

Carefully blended from select grades to effectively clean fur and skin, ChillDust™ captures excess oils and odor-carrying yuck, contributing greatly to the well-being of your cute little critter. ChillDust is an effective cleanser—the unique structural makeup of pumice granules provides aggressive grab-and-hold cleansing performance and superior oil absorbtion properties.

The Nitty Gritty. ChillDust™ particles have no crystalline structure, and thus do not present a respitatory danger to man or beast. In industrial use, for example, our pumice grades (including those grades used for the ChillDust blend) are classified by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration (OSHA) as no more than a “nuisance dust.” ChillDust is also pH neutral (pH of 7.2) and so presents no caustic acidity or alkalinity concerns. The relative density (2.35 g/cc) of our pumice means the airborne dust generated by dust-bathing activity is diminished, as verified by chinchilla breeders and pet owners who have switched to ChillDust.

Empress Chinchilla is a breeders cooperative that was established in 1945 to educate chinchilla ranchers and establish quality standards to breed, show and market superior animals. The ChillDust™ blend was developed in close cooperation with key Empress breeders, including Casey Craner and renowned expert Jim Ritterspach.

Composition: Primarily made up of Silicon Dioxide (76%) and Aluminum Oxide (14%) and traces of Ferric Oxide, Ferrous Oxide, Sodium Oxide, Potassium Oxide, Calcium Oxide, Titanium Oxide, and Magnesium Oxide.
