Texturizing Grit: Non-Slip and Textured-Surface Applications

BUY DIMENSION GRIT

adding Dimension Grit in-suspension texturizer to primer to provide a grippy texture for a thin-coat interior plaster application

Dimension Grit™ being added to a sealing primer (to provide "tooth") in preparation of a LimeStrong Artisan™ thin-coat lime plaster interior finish.

micrograph of pumice particles

Under magnification, Dimension Grit™ shows its angular, grippy, foamed-glass-stone nature. Dimension Grit™ is available in Baby, Rough, and Monster-Bite sizes.

THE SAME QUALITIES that make pumice a great abrasive also work to make pumice highly effective as a grit for non-skid and “toothy” coatings—a sponge-like stone riven with nooks, crannys and sharp glassy edges that grab and hold.

Another advantage inherent in the foamed-stone nature of Dimension Grit™ is that it binds tightly into the cured paint, primer, coating, or resin. And unlike the monolithic solidity of a sand particle, pumice is friable. Under enough force or wear, pumice tends to fracture instead of popping out, leaving some of the pumice particle bound in place to continue providing grip. The loose sharp-edged shards will tend to bite into surface coating and provide positive traction under load (which is why pumice makes a great snow and ice traction aid). Conversely, solid particles like sand, once freed from the binding substrate, add a loose layer of slippery particles to roll and slide around underfoot.

Stays in Suspension. Because of the light, frothy nature of pumice and its low specific gravity, Dimension Grit™ tends to stay in suspension (how long depends of viscosity of liquid). Heavier grits, like sand, will settle, requiring constant stirring or agitation or a last-minute sprinkle-in application right before applying..

DIMENSION GRIT™ (BABY BITE)
In-suspension grip agent for giving tooth to primers (like Primus™) that prepare gypsum wall board surfaces to take thin-coat (venetian-type, like LimeStrong Artisan™) interior plasters. For paints where a subtle texture is desired while also serving as a functional filler/extender. Stir into gessos to achieve mildly texturized surface for painting.

DIMENSION GRIT™ (ROUGH BITE)
In-suspension grip agent for primers (like Primus™) that prepare gypsum wall board surfaces to take thicker interior plasters. For paints and floor coatings where a roughened, traction texture is desired. Stir into gessos to achieve roughened, texturized surface for painting.
